Grants for Saimaa Ringed Seal Protection

The Foundation grants financing for projects that aim especially at safeguarding and improving the living conditions of the Saimaa Ringed Seal. These include communication and raising of public awareness of the need to protect the Saimaa Ringed Seal, scientific studies on the seal, acquisition of land and water areas for protection of the seal, and supervision of nature reserves. The decisions on the grants are made by the Board of the Foundation.

The Nestori Foundation finances Saimaa Ringed Seal protection and research projects carried out only by Finnish or other organisations or persons working in Finland. Annually, some 10,000 euro is granted for projects enhancing Saimaa Ringed Seal protection.

The Nestori Foundation encourages the protection of the Saimaa Ringed Seal in many ways. The Foundation backs voluntary workers in seal stock inventories, grants funds for research, supports nature conservation organisations doing Saimaa Ringed Seal protection work, gives financial means for organising nature outings and exhibitions and gives prizes for school nature projects.
